Cargo transport along Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway makes a milestone
Hai’an County in Nantong City achieved a milestone on the early morning of July 10 as it launched the first freight train along the newly opened Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway, providing key logistics rail-sea combined transport solution to companies in Nantong and neighboring areas.
Wang Weiguo, head of the logistics base in Hai’an, said the first freight train carried 60 containers with 80 percent of cargos coming from enterprises in Nantong, such as furniture, sports supplies, machinery and equipment, and photovoltaic products. The train arrived at Shanghai’s Luchao Port, where goods will be then shipped to Yangshan Port.
Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway is an important part of the coastal passage in the country’s “eight vertical and eight horizontal” high-speed railway network. With a speed up to 200 kilometers per hour, the railway line serves to transport both passengers and cargos, six pairs of freight trains every day according to the schedule.
The freight train leaving Hai’an has eight trips a week, including five to Yangshan Port from Tuesday to Saturday and three to Ningbo Zhoushan Port on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It is expected that the annual cargo shipping capacity will reach 300,000 tons.
